The 2007 Volvo S80 full-size sedan, Volvo’s flagship luxury sedan, is scheduled to be unveiled to the public on February 28 at the International Motor Show in Geneva. Its North American introduction, on the other hand, is scheduled on the 12th of April at the New York International Auto Show. But Volvo can’t seem to wait for these dates to come, so they gave the public a hint of what the new Volvo S80 would look like with pictures and bits of information.
In a press release Tuesday, Volvo gave some details about the new Volvo S80 together with a blizzard of photos. Details about the vehicle’s new engines, interior features, exterior modifications, and new safety features were revealed. Some spy information about the new vehicle that has been spreading through the Internet the past few months were also confirmed by the release.

For the 2007 model year, the Volvo S80 would be fitted with either a V8 engine or a new inline six engine. The V8 engine is the same engine used on the Volvo XC90 (as have been previously reported by online auto magazines) and it outputs 311 horsepower and 325 lb/ft of torque. The all-new inline-six engine, on the other hand, outputs 232 horsepower and 236 lb/ft of torque.
Fredrik Arp, President and CEO of Volvo Cars, would like to describe the new Volvo S80 as a vehicle that radiates “Scandinavian Luxury”. And what does that mean? That means “clean and elegant lines and intelligent functionality where every single detail has been designed with the user’s well-being in mind,” Arp continues. Expectedly, the photos and specs of the new vehicle confirm this “Scandinavian Luxury” thing.
Aside from the new engines, the new luxury sedan would also come standard with DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control) and TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) features that are designed to increase safety, control and performance. Another new safety feature is the Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Warning and Brake Support, a new technology that will be seen first on the Volvo S80.
As for the actual launching of the new Volvo S80, it is expected to be seen on European showrooms by mid-2006 while North Americans would have to wait until the end of 2006 to see the actual production unit.
