Men, it seems, have little to brag about to women when it comes to car care knowledge. A survey conducted by Jiffy Lube International, a chain of fast lube and oil change service centers across the U.S., revealed that although 69% of men and 64% of women believe that men know more about preventive auto maintenance than women, it was discovered that both sexes actually fall short on car care knowledge based on their answers to basic car care questions.
For example, Jiffy Lube asked the respondents where the proper tire inflation pressure information can be found – 67% of men and 45% of women said it’s found on the tire’s sidewalls. Actually, the correct pressure information is found on a sticker or decal usually located at a car’s door jamb or vehicle manual. The figure embossed on the tire sidewall lists the maximum pressure recommended by the tire manufacturer.
In other questions including oil change, windshield wipers, cabin air filters, antifreeze and other car-care topics, both men and women appeared to have somewhat limited knowledge. Read more about their responses here. Jiffy Lube conducted the survey, with a 3.2% margin of error, among 524 men and 522 women, 18 and older. “With peak driving season approaching and gasoline prices rising, we decided to see if men really have any bragging rights when it comes to getting the most out of your vehicle — and every gallon,” explained Mark Ferner, technical expert at Jiffy Lube International.

This just shows that it helps to have roadside assistance. It is also a good idea to have an extended warranty so that you don’t pay for these costly repairs.
