Saturn PreVue: A Preview to Future Saturn Design Direction

Saturn PreVue

The 2006 New York International Auto show, the last international auto show of the season, has just ended and it is a general consensus that the Big Apple show presented a most excellent lineup, with production and concept vehicles ranging from luxury to crossovers. One of the many crossover SUVs which made a mark at the 2006 NYIAS was the Saturn PreVue concept.

The aptly named PreVue provides a preview of future Saturn design direction. GM is currently in the process of revitalizing the Saturn marquee by shaking off its conservative and laid-back image for a more sporty and youthful design. The stylish PreVue concept is a three-door, four wheel drive crossover created in collaboration with GM’s Opel (the PreVue was first introduced at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show as the Opel Antara GTC concept.

The Saturn PreVue combines the design elements of a coupe such as a gracefully sloping roof, two doors, and missing B-pillars with the characteristic styling cues of SUVs such as prominent side shoulders, wheel cutouts, short overhangs and steeply inclined windows. The front features a stunning V-shaped aluminum radiator grille and stylish LED headlamps. The body comes in brilliant Everglade Mica exterior accented by contrasting dark bumpers, silver body strips and gleaming 20 inch aluminum wheels.

Inside, the Saturn PreVue features a two-tone interior with generous use of warm tones such as dark brown on the door liners and upper instrument panel combined with light beige on the roof, seats and floors. Stainless steel and aluminum accents complete the attractive dashboard design. The PreVue also has a panoramic roof system that features two large sunroofs with dark-tinted glass that provide a bright interior yet without too much sunlight.

The PreVue crossover concept draws its power from a two-stage turbocharged 212hp twin-turbo version of the Ecotec common-rail diesel engine with a six-speed transmission and a torque of 295 lb.-ft. Design elements of the Saturn PreVue will likely be seen in future versions of the Saturn Vue, currently a highly successful compact SUV.

Is that actually a two-door crossover SUV? Man, there’s more room than what i expect from a a 2-door SUV. The features are absolutely sophisticated, and perfectly fitted to Saturn PreVue’s great design. I wanna enjoy all these amenities. And the twin-turbo… I’d love to squeeze the power injected in it.

  2. Bo Says:

This is a beautiful vehicle. It is actually a rebadged Opel… a great German company oh which I am a huge fan. I would buy this in an instant where it made available for purchase!

  3. Al Says:

Word is the PreVue gets four doors on the production model and a much more squared off backend, with a lot less interesting interior and powerplant. I love the two door–hopefully GM will make it happen.

  4. Stacey Conley Says:

Man I hope this one, with 3 doors, goes into production. I have never seen a more perfect car! I would absolutely buy one in a heartbeat. I’m holding off buying a new car until I know if I can get this one. I’ll take one in black with gray/red interior please! ;)

  5. Jim Beall Says:

I can’t believe it! First the Sky then this? Its like Saturn is making cars that are actually nice to look at. But if they box the back it would ruin it. They should leave the body basically as is and I would buy one (Hear that Saturn???). The interior and roof design rocks! I never imagined being in the market to buy a Saturn. But since they will probably ruin it I will get the Acura RDX next year.

  6. R. Santos Says:

I am in the market for a new car. Now, once I saw this..Prevue. I am saving and waiting, and hoping GM does not ruin it by changing anything, maybe a little bit, but keep it small and 3 doors. it will be great here in NYC the way it is. It is my car(SUV) once it is for sale. Now, GM, and saturn..Hear this, you change it big and you will loose me. Please, keep as it is. The Prevue is fq and like I said, I am saving for you Prevue. i am holding on my vacation(s) and my wedding, just do not tell my girlfriend….GM and Saturn. I am making my part of the deal, now make your. GM, Saturn…you get me..I got to go, my GF is here.

  7. T. Ritter Says:

Hello Saturn, if the production version is very close to this model, I will buy one. I currently drive an ION Redline and would like to get an SUV. I will buy it as is, so don’t go changing it!! Will hold off for a year to see if this vehicle makes production.

  8. Michael Schumacher Says:

I was really looking forward to the Volvo C30 but with the raised seat height this could be better. Please think about this kind of hot looks and practicality and PLEASE avoid the urge to go AWD and V6. It doesn’t have to be hybrid or diesel but I am done with funding al quaeda. $ cylinder or I keep looking.

  9. Plug In Hybrid Says:

I really like the look of this new Saturn PreVue. I really hope it comes with some propulsion choices though. Such as Flexible Fuel and “Full” Hybrid capability, and even the choice to plug it in. A Plug In Hybrid version would make this vehicle the ultimate and perfect choice for me to own.
