Mercedes Benz S-Class: Winner of the EuroCarBodyAWARD 2005

The new Mercedes Benz S-Class debuts into the automotive world in spectacular fashion by winning the EuroCarBodyAWARD 2005. This award recognizes the S-Class’ “pioneering innovations in the development and production of car bodies. The new Mercedes Benz S-Class rightfully won the accolade with its completely new body concept using high-tech steel grades to guarantee safety. Almost 50 percent of the total body components are manufactured from high-strength or higher strength steel grades.

Maximum rigidity at minimum weight is then achieved. The results: static torsional rigidity of the body shell was improved by 12 percent compared to earlier S-Class models. Static torsional rigidity is an important gauge of safe and comfortable handling. Meanwhile, aluminum is used in most of the S-Class’ other components such as the doors, front fenders, hood, and trunk lid.

The EuroCarBodyAWARD 2005 acclaims the outstanding achievements in the area of vehicle body design and production. It is presented at an annual event organized by Automotive Circle International. The Mercedes Benz S-Class was recognized for the award at the 7th International Car Body Benchmarking Forum. The S-Class beat out 12 other production vehicle bodies from rival European and Japanese automakers.

This is the latest award for the new Mercedes Benz S-Class since its premiere at the IAA International Auto Show last year. Since then, it has already received various honors including the Luxury Top Auto 2005 award as well as the Golden Steering Wheel 2005. The S-Class also took the top spot in the Luxury Car of the Year contest staged by What Car?, a British auto magazine.
