Before starting his business, Bill Neumann was already established in the automobile industry as part of European car magazine and other publications. Neumann decided to venture into the actual manufacturing of automotive parts. His first project was the high performance parts for V8 engine. However, due to the gasoline crisis in the 1970's, Neumann realized that there must be a better way of making profit out of automotive parts.

Neumann had the idea of concentrating on European cars. Neumann visited Germany and various automobile tuners to establish business contacts. He finally found his business partner in the Oettinger Company. His company worked in partnership with Oettinger in developing a special 16V cylinder head. He convinced the German company to allow him to bring the 16V engine to the United States to be placed in the Volkswagen Rabbit. The Volkswagen vehicle was developed and named as the Thunder Bunny. This car was tested by Road & Track and Motor Trend magazines. It has earned recognition from these magazines. Both the public and the media became very interested. It was the beginning of the successful venture of the Neuspeed Company.
