The engine mounts that are being manufactured today are not so simple like the ones that were used back in the old days. The older versions of engine mounts were a large slab of rubber put in between two chunks of flat steel metal. The modern engines mounts used today are particularly engineered with precise shapes, rubber hardness or the durometer measurement and voids, which are, in layman's terms, air gaps that tune the mount to the engine. Some of the modern engine mounts are hydraulic which has chambers that are filled with silicone fluid and some are electronically controlled.

You are well aware that your vehicle is not new anymore and that its engine mounts are probably worn out. The rubber mounts are probably soaked in oil by now. But even if it still is not the case, if your vehicle has reached the 60,000 or 70,000 mile mark, the engine mounts would have been twisted out of shape or might already have some serious cracks on them due to the high engine compartment temperatures of today's vehicles. If the weather stripping cowl is already worn out, it will permit the air to flow over the top of the vehicle instead of going through the engine compartment to lower the temperature which keeps the engine mounts and all the other components under the hood cool.
