STOPTECH BRAKES BRING CELEBRITIES TO A STOP AT THE TOYOTA PRO/CELEBRITY RACE IN LONG BEACH

LOS ANGELES (April 2009) – All of the drivers participating in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race as part of the 35th Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach will compete in a race ready Scion tC with brakes from StopTech, a leading innovator of world-class brake components and systems for production-based racing cars and high performance vehicles on the street and track. The Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race on April 18, 2009, will feature a wide range of celebrity drivers “getting racy” to raise funds for charity including Keanu Reeves, Adrien Brody, Alex Trebek and Carlos Mencia.
“StopTech is focused on giving production vehicles like the Scion tC extra stopping power through patented innovations for track and performance driving conditions such as the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race,” said Dino Crescentini, CEO of Centric Parts, which includes the ultra-performance StopTech division. Crescentini also drives for GMG Racing and will participate in the SCCA SPEED World Challenge Series race, which is the final event of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend.
As the world’s longest-running and most prestigious celebrity racing event, the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race has introduced more than 500 celebrities to the sport of real race car competition. Pitting popular personalities against professional racers, the 10-lap sprint around the 1.97-mile downtown Long Beach street circuit gives celebrities the chance to put the pedal to the metal from behind the wheel of race-ready Scion tCs.
Each Scion tC in the 2009 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race will benefit from StopTech’s patented caliper bridge design along with two-piece rotors that make use of StopTech’s patented AeroHat and AeroRotor technologies. The rock solid calipers and dramatically increased cooling airflow provide shorter stopping distances, better brake modulation, and virtually eliminate brake fade. This year’s field is comprised of 18 drivers including Hollywood superstar Keanu Reeves, Academy Award winner Adrien Brody, Raven-Symoné from “That’s So Raven” five-time Emmy award winning “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek, Mary Lynn Rajskub from the FOX television series “24,” Tim Daly from ABC’s “Private Practice,” Eric Close from “Without a Trace” on CBS, comedian Carlos Mencia, two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser, Jr., and more.
This year’s event will benefit Miller Children's Hospital at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, California’s largest full-service children's hospital, and Children's Hospital of Orange County, which was the county’s first children’s hospital. StopTech brake pads combine the benefits of premium street brake pads with aggressive friction formulas suitable for track day and autocross use. Para-Aramid composites deliver optimum stopping performance over a wide temperature range and are specially formulated to deliver linear response in both cold and hot conditions. All StopTech Brake pads are 100% positive molded and include OE designed shims to eliminate noise associated with brake pad vibration. In addition each StopTech brake pad is scorched to remove any impurities in the friction material. While this does not eliminate the need to bed-in new pads it does provide improved stopping power right out of the box.

Centric premium rotors feature a double disc ground, taper free finish. Double disc grinding ensures parallelism, eliminates run out and provides near perfect disc thickness variation (DTV). Double disc grinding leaves a non-directional finish on the friction surface area for more effective pad-rotor break in. This special finish also provides quieter and smoother stops.
