Brake rotor is actually the common term for brake disc which is considered as the central part of the automobile's brake system. The brake rotor like the Aftermarket brake rotor is used to fasten the caliper that stops the wheels' movement when the driver is trying to halt. Today, the design of the brake rotor comes in its simplest look, yet effective and reliable in its function. This design uses a solid cast iron or sometimes hollowed which have added fins that connect the disc in its contact surface. The hollow design is a great advantage since it is used for ventilation that dissipates the heats that is produced. Hollowed designs are common on front disc.

There is also some brake rotor today which has some holes that is essential in redistributing the gas on the disc surface. This hole allows the gas to pass through as the pads connect on the disc. This design is actually known for its high performance. The slotted design rotor is also effective in removing dust and dirt particles but wears out easily. But because of the stress that is experienced by the rotor when working, wearing out is actually normal. Warping, scaring, and cracks are few of the common troubles in the rotor. Warp happens when the heat softens the metal surface resulting to deformation. When the heated disc is cooled immediately or when the clamped disc is released soon could also result to warping.

Trouble with cracks is actually common on drilled disc design. The hole that is found near the disc's edge could develop cracks easily because of the uneven expansion of the disc when being heated. There are still a lot of factors that causes damage to the rotors, and before the entire brake system becomes useless, immediately replace this damage component.
