Your car's fuel regulator may fail as a result of low pressure. To verify this, you can pinch off the fuel return line to see if the pressure rises. Oftentimes the diaphragm will develop leaks and while the fuel pressure is not affected, fuel finds its way into the vacuum lines causing a couple of problems and most them are MAP sensor related. Mounted to the firewall, the fuel pressure regulator is a cylindrical metal object connected to the fuel rail. It is also equipped with vacuum connection. The job of the fuel pressure regulator is to keep pressure in the fuel system to a constant 28 psi.
In doing this job, it is equipped with a spring loaded diaphragm that is responsible for controlling the valve. When opened by too much pressure in the fuel lines, this valve uncovers a fuel line that returns excess fuel to the fuel tank. In locating the fuel pressure regulator, you just need to follow the fuel rail around the engine. The fuel rail is the pipe whose function is to carry the fuel to all the injectors and the cold start valve. Basically, it comes on one side of the engine and goes out on the other. On the way out of the engine compartment, the fuel pressure is the last thing that the fuel gets to.
During the deceleration, the valve connection helps in the reduction of omission. In this process, the vacuum connection serves to open the fuel return valve wider which lessens the amount of pressure in the system as well as avoids excess hydrocarbon emission due to less fuel being injected resulting from the lower pressure within the system.
