It has been a tradition for Ford to use a single nameplate to name different cars manufactured on separate years. One of the separate cases when Ford did not follow this tradition is with the Ford Galaxie. Although the Ford Galaxie shifted in style and shape from the time it was introduced until it was dropped from Ford’s model line-up, the nameplate was only used to refer to Ford’s full-size cars.

The Ford Galaxie was introduced by Ford in 1959 as a six model line-up of full size cars. The line-up consists of the Club Victoria, Town Victoria, Town Sedan, Club Sedan, Sunliner Convertible and Skyliner Retractable. These first six models were basically upscale versions of the Ford Fairlane, which by then was still being produced by Ford.

A different Ford Galaxie was introduced by Ford in 1960, then an entirely different model from the Ford Fairlane. It featured a new sleek look which was a lot different from the aerodynamic look that the Ford Fairlane had. In the following year, the Ford Galaxie became the only full-size car offered by Ford, and this lasted until 1964. During this period, the Ford Galaxie was available in three trim levels: Galaxie, Galaxie 500 and Galaxie 500XL. Also in this period, Ford created a race car version of the Galaxie equipped with a 7 liter engine that outputs 600 hp of power.

In 1965, the Ford Galaxie was given a new aggressive look, dropping the sleek styling of the early 1960s. The Ford Custom was also introduced the same year, joining the Ford Galaxie in Ford’s line-up of full-size cars. The Ford Custom became the base model while the Ford Galaxie was sold in three trim levels including the previous Galaxie 500 and 500XL trims plus the luxury Galaxie 500LTD trim.

Another restyle occurred in 1968 and this time, the Ford Galaxie received a more muscular look, resembling that of the muscle cars popular during this time. This period, however, marked the start of Ford Galaxie’s end. In 1968, the car was available only in one trim level, which lasted until it was finally dropped in 1974.

Today, the Ford Galaxie is a sought-after classic car, although the later models don’t get that much popularity. Seeing them on the roads is considered a rather rare instance. If you are an owner of one, however, you can still drive the car if you properly restore it and equip it with high performance Ford Galaxie parts. Here at Parts Train, we have a wide inventory of Ford Galaxie auto parts that you can use to restore such classic car.
