Chrysler Sebring The 1995 model year was short for Diamond Star, a merger between Mitsubishi and Chrysler, since the Sebring and Avenger was introduced in April of 1995. The reason it had the 1995 model designation is that the Avenger had been introduced the previous fall, so dealers could not be selling 1995 Avengers alongside 1996 Sebring's. Mitsubishi purchased the remaining interest in the plant from Chrysler. So Chrysler Sebring’s are technically known as transplants, since they are now assembled under Mitsubishi management.

Legally, however, all Sebring's could have been called 1996 models. For the 1996 model the changes were; the horsepower of the V6 was amplified from 155 to 163 hp. There are no externally visible changes in the engines between the 1995 and 1996 models, and Chrysler has been reluctant to reveal where the horsepower boost came from. Either the same engine was simply re-rated or perhaps there was perhaps some transformation in the electronics that control fuel management. Chrysler Sebring's have captured the hearts of many motorists. Many Sebring's have come out in different makes and models to fulfill every whim, wants and needs and they cater to all kind of people.

These Sebring's are available with two engines. Only the convertible though comes with the standard V6 across all trims. The sedan is fitted with a 4-cylinder 2.4 liter DOHC 16 valve engine on its base trim and a V6 is optional. The coupe though has a different story. While being a member of the DSM (Diamond Star Motors) famous line in the 1990's, this Chrysler coupe was purchased by Mitsubishi and is outfitted with the same engine as the Galant. The base LX coupe utilizes a single-cam 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 142 horsepower and links to a four-speed automatic transaxle. The luxury version, the Sebring LXi, is fitted with a 3.0-liter V6 charged to 200 horsepower. All in all, the Chrysler Sebring provides ample power and is definitely not an engine that is designed just to take you from point A to point B. Its speed is even more delightful with the mileage of a practical automobile.

The current generation Sebring is actually two different cars. The sedan and convertible has the same platform but the coupe is very different. The coupe is the next-generation Diamond Star Motors product while the sedan and convertible are Chrysler JA platform successors to the Chrysler Cirrus. The Sebring coupe will be suspended after 2005, and the car will shift to a new DaimlerChrysler/Mitsubishi Motors platform for 2007.
