A blend of Scandinavian style and Volvo engineering expertise, that’s the Volvo V50 compact wagon aimed to appeal to younger generation buyers. It was introduced to the whole world through the 2003 Bologna Motor Show held in Italy and was later on sold officially in the summer of 2004. The regular front wheel drive base wagon V50 model is equipped with a 2.4-liter inline five cylinder engine that can boost 168 horsepower. The high performance T5 edition on the other hand is powered by the turbocharged version rated with 218 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. It can be paired with an optional Haldex all-wheel drive system. Several enhancements were done for 2006 especially on the power system and the interior features of the car. Notable for the 2.4i model is the improved standard steering wheel audio controls perfectly paired with the new cup holders. The six speed manual gearbox of T5 models now come with a pushdown feature to suit various types of driving conditions. Volvo V50 has features similar with the V40 as shown by the “body that resembles the shape of a sleek speedboat, with a rounded prow, a broad mid-ship section and a narrowing stern,” according to Volvo engineers and designers. The contours of the car are designed with soft rounded lines that superbly match the short hood and powerful grille designed with a diagonal cross-member. The T5 offers a Dynamic Trim Package which features 17-inch aluminum wheels and spoilers for front, rear and side areas of the car. So that would really transform the car into a real sporty stunner. And of course, safety is a must that is why the car is equipped with standard traction control, all-disc antilock brakes and side curtain-type airbags.
