Initially designed to compete with the small sports cars, the Triumph Spitfire was manufactured by Standard-Triumph. It is a small British two-seat sports car launched in 1962 with the codename “Bomb”. It was based on the Triumph Herald design created in 1927 by Giovanni Michelotti, an Italian designer. During the production of the Triumph Spitfire, there were five separate models, which were marketed. This include the Four or Mk.1 available from 1962-1964 and the Mk2 from 1965-1967. Third is the Mk3 from 1967-1971 followed by the Mk IV from 1971-1975 and the 1500 from the year 1974 until 1981.

The Triumph Spitfire competed with the Austin-Henley Sprite. It made use of the Triumph Herald’s mechanism, which highlighted a separate chassis.
