Triumph is a brand of automobile manufactured originally by the Triumph Motor Company. The brand originated from the first bicycle that Seigfrield Brittman and Mauritz Schulte manufactured in 1885, called the Triumph bicycle. In 1921, Brittman acquired the Dawson Car Company and then started manufacturing the Triumph Light Car, a 1.9 liter model car. The company continued producing a couple more of car until the 1929 depression. As it recovers from the depression, the company changed its name to Triumph Motor Company.

The Second World War greatly affected Triumph Motor Company, causing loses and destruction of property. After the war, what was left of the company was bought by Standard Motor Company. Standard Motor tried to redevelop Triumph and manufactured such cars as the Triumph Roadster, TS20 and TR2. During the ‘60s, the company merged with Leyland Motors and continued in the manufacture of several other Triumph cars. During this era, however, poor quality and various mechanical problems have made the Triumph brand lose its popularity. Currently, the Triumph trademark is owned by BMW and so far, no Triumph car has been manufactured by the company.
