The Rolls Royce Camargue was introduced to the market in March 1975. Its body was built by Rolls Royce’s Mulliner Park Ward while the car’s distinct angular design can be attributed to the Italian designer Sergio Pininfarina. This car has many firsts like it was the first of its kind to be designed with metric dimensions. Another first was its capacity to have a completely automatic split-level conditioning system. In the split-level conditioning system there is a choice when it comes to the temperature you want for the upper and lower parts of the interior. This was also the first in the Rolls line-up to be released after the war and was said to be the most expensive production in the globe. Its name is based on a particular breed of horses that can be found in the Camargue province in the South of France. From 1975 until it stopped being produced in 1985, this car sold for roughly about US$147,000.

This car is a two-door coupe that was developed based on the platform of the Silver Shadow and Rolls-Royce Corniche. A 6.7 L V8 engine is the driving force behind the Silver Shadow even though the mechanism of the Camargue is a little bit more advanced. Transmission is a 3-speed automatic turbo-hydramatic. Aluminum-silicon alloy cylinder block with wet cast iron cylinder liners are integrated in the engine. It also made use of SU carburetors as well as Solex 4-barrel carburetor.

Its one of a kind body style made it stand out. The designer Sergio Pininfarina included a slanted grille in the design. It is tilted for about seven degrees that allows larger amount of air to enter which is very beneficial for cooling the temperature in the engine area. Some say that the car’s angularity makes it pretty much like an Italian luxury sedan. It also has the characteristic of a coupe which is being long and wide.

Only very few units of this Rolls Royce Camargue were put up in the American, European, Asian, Canadian and Australian markets. Those of you who have taken a particular liking to this vehicle are lucky to have a classic in your possession. At this time, that can already be classified as collectible item so it is even more important to maintain its quality. Your Rolls Royce Camargue can be carefully preserved by upgrading it and replacing the parts and accessories.
