Renault is a French company automaker that crafted the Renault R17. Production of the Renault 17 started in 1971 and continued until 1980. It is a coupe version patterned after the platform of the Renault 12. The spectators in the Paris Motor Show in October 1971 witnessed the unveiling of the Renault R17 together with the Renault R15. Both are made from the Renault 12 platform. The cars may look similar at a first glance but they are actually different as shown by the body style and the configurations of their headlight. Renault R15 comes with dual rectangular headlights while the Renault R17 has quadruple circular headlamps. Most of the features of the R17 power train such as the chassis and the running gear were taken from the R12. However, the car has its distinct unique style and mechanical features. Later in 1979, the Renault R17 and the Renault R15 were replaced by the Renault Fuego. The features of the Renault R17 vary from one generation to the other to match the changing demands of auto users and buyers. R17 produced for 1973 is packed with four cylinder light alloy engine matched with a five speed gearbox for a power boost of 1565cc 108hp. The auto is equipped with a front wheel drive system lined up with solid disc brakes on the rear and ventilated ones on the front section. A glance on the power train would reveal flexible coil springs, independent front suspension, anti roll bars in front, pressed steel axle at the back lined in place by tie rods and triangular member. As measured, the car is 1.63 m wide and 4.26 m long. Its weight of 1060 kg is just right for a maximum speed of 185 kmh. The last Renault R17 rolled off its production plant in France in the 1980s.
