Renault Fuego The Renault Fuego is blessed with a body which is not only roomy and aerodynamically efficient but is also beautiful. The Fuego is a distinctive car that appeals to some people very much; some drivers love it and take great delight in its uniqueness and unusual features, while others won't give it a second glance Its all a matter of taste but many have attested in favor of it and made it popular so it seems that Renault made the right choice. Undeniably, one might say the same about many classic French cars. However, with a motorcar of such sporting bearing and prominent looks as the Fuego the outcome was greatly magnified.

The construction of the Renault Fuego started in 1980. This vehicle became almost instantly one of the best seller sportive coupe models for Renault not only in France but all over the Europe. Its driving performance, chassis, brakes nor engines were outstanding with regard to sport. Its popularity rose from a year to another, especially due to its original design and the simplicity of its operation. Fuego ensured an outstanding comfort to front passengers but also rear passengers had no reason to feel cramped. As it is usual in this class, Fuego did not offer a large luggage space. However, its room of the luggage department was outstanding in its segment. Its production continued on in Brazil after the production in France had been finished.

The Renault Fuego never experienced much major changes in its design during its production run, but had a couple on the mechanical front. There were 3 different basic engine types available for the Fuego: the 1.4 Sierra engine; the alloy hemi-head R16 and the ohc. These engines ran the length of capacities from 1.4 to 2.2 liters. The introduction of the Turbo was a major event of course. The Renault Fuego attained a good deal of sales success in Europe, Australia, South America and even the US. There were designs for a Mark II Fuego integrating all-wheel drive, larger turbocharged engines and a revised body. Unfortunately, the Fuego fell victim to the decline in interest in sport coupes in the mid-eighties. Plans did not fall through for more high powered and sportier Renault Fuego’s and then it died a natural death. The Fuego stayed in production in Argentina up until 1993, a remarkable several years after production ended in France. Some of the more notable Fuego’s of the later period were the Formula Fuego 2.2 liter: labeled as such in honor of Renault's F1 victories, which was built in Venezuela and the GTA Max built in Argentina.
