The Pontiac Ventura is one of the most under rated General Motors’ car of all time. No wonder, many don’t know the car nowadays, much as they were never really popular during their time. The first of the two Pontiac Venturas was introduced in 1960 and was manufactured and sold only for two model years. It was a mid-size car in the form of a 2-door hard top coupe. The car is not very popular and can hardly be a classic or an antique with the current classification standards. The car is plainly old and rare. The second Pontiac car that used the Pontiac Ventura nameplate lasted a bit longer than the first. It was introduced in 1971 and was manufactured and sold through the 1977 model year. The car even had a redesign before entering the 1975 model year. It was a clone of the Chevrolet Nova and sold as an entry-level Pontiac car along with other GM siblings like the Oldsmobile Omega and the Buick Apollo. In 1975, the Pontiac Ventura, along with its other GM siblings, was given a redesign and was fitted to the new GM X-body platform.
While the second of the two Pontiac Ventura models lasted longer than the first, it was neither a success. The Pontiac Ventura, along with the other X-cars, was considered as a failure by the General Motors engineering team, that’s why the X-body platform was retired shortly after few years of use. The X-body platform proved to be a poor design and caused too much problems to the cars that used the body style.
With neither of the two Pontiac Ventura car models showing valuable characteristics, both became unpopular and has no chance to be considered as a classic.
