Manufactured from 1654 to 1966, the Pontiac Star chief was one of the prestigious models of Pontiac. The Star Chief was most noted for the chrome star trim on its sides. After three years of being sold in the market, in 1957 a high performance version of the Star Chief was introduced and called the Star Chief Custom Bonneville. In 1959 though, the Pontiac Star chief released in the market were limited to hardtops and sedans. And in 1960 the Star Chief models released were almost similar to the Catalina. The only difference between the two was the higher engine power and longer platform of the Star Chief. The name Pontiac Star chief was, however, replaced with Star Chief Executive in 1966 and later replace again with Pontiac Executive dropping the name Star Chief altogether in 1967.
