Plymouth Scamp Parts |
There were two entirely different vehicles manufactured by Chrysler’s Plymouth division that bears the Plymouth Scamp name. The first of these was manufacture in the 1970s and was a relative to the popular Dodge/Plymouth Valiant. The other was manufactured only for a short time in the 1980s and was similar to the Plymouth Horizon.
Chrysler introduced the first of the two Plymouth Scamps in 1971. It was a 2-door hardtop coupe based on the Chrysler A-body platform, the same platform used for the Dodge/Plymouth Valiant and the other Valiant variants like the Plymouth Duster, Dodge Dart and Dodge Demon. It was actually similar to the coupe version of the Dodge Dart Swinger that Plymouth was given license to copy after allowing Dodge to also replicate the Plymouth Duster with the Dodge Demon. Unlike the Dodge Dart Swinger, however, the Scamp was only available as a coupe while the other was also available in sedan and convertible body styles.
Through its entire six-year stint from 1971 to 1976, there has been no much change with the Plymouth Scamp, except for a few minor styling detail changes. Through its entire run, it was equipped with two popular and reliable engines: the Slant Six in either 198 or 225 versions, and the 318 V8. A 3-speed automatic transmission is standard with whatever engine option was fitted on the car, although a 4-speed automatic was said to have been available as an option.
The other Plymouth Scamp, manufactured and sold from 1982 to 1983, was an entirely different vehicle. It was a car-based pickup truck based on the Plymouth Horizon. It was introduced together with a Dodge twin, the Dodge Rampage. It also shared most of its body and mechanical parts with the Plymouth Turismo. It was available in two trim levels, base and GT, and equipped with a sole 2.2 liter engine. A 4-speed manual transmission was standard for the base trim while the upscale GT comes equipped with a 5-speed manual unit. A 3-speed automatic transaxle was also available as an option for all trim levels.
