Among the exclusive line-up of Plymouth cars came the creation of another car, which caught the fellow competitors off guard with its peak of success, is the Plymouth GTX. Plymouth GTX captured the attention of car enthusiasts, buyers and users with its top of the line performance. It is the car manufactured by Chrysler Corporation produced in 1967 until 1971 with an FR B-body platform. With its entrance into the car industry, it became one of the most prominent vehicles particularly in the muscle car classification.
In 1967, the Plymouth GTX was launched as the Beldevere GTX and was called a “gentleman’s” muscle car. It was an excellent combination of performance and style. Its unique grille and rear end outlook makes it stand out from the common Beldevere. And because it is a performance vehicle, a superior suspension system was made average. The Plymouth GTX contains an engine called the Super Commando 440 paced 375 hp but the purchasers during the 1967 could afford to pay a higher price. With this, the 440 was traded with Chrysler’s 426 Hemi paced at 425 hp. As a result, there were only 720 GTXs marketed with this engine. The best thing about the Plymouth GTX is that it never ran out power.
There are two body types introduced by the Plymouth GTX. The first one is the hard top Plymouth GTX. It is designed with an aggressive and sporty design that catches the attention of onlookers. There are sharp angles and lines sprinting across the corners and sides to add a muscular look. The other one is the convertible type Plymouth GTX. Like the hard top, it is also highlighted with an insistent style and appearance revealed by the jagged contours running along the sides. The dual chrome drain tips, dual hoop scoops, red line tires which are paired with blazing Magnum wheels and the pit stop fuel cap adds to the look of the convertible Plymouth GTX. Unfortunately, this second type was gone in the 1970. The GTX evolved through the years. An important refurbishing was made. The contours were sleeker and a power bulge and rear brake air scoops were installed.
Nowadays, car enthusiasts are engaged in looking for vintage cars and the Plymouth GTX falls on this category. And because it is a vintage, Plymouth GTX parts could be difficult to find.
