The Plymouth Fury is probably the best example of a car model whose styling and design just went with the flow and existing trend to live for a wide stretch of production years. And this characteristic of the Plymouth Fury has carried the Plymouth brand for years. It was actually the Plymouth Fury that led Plymouth to third place in total car sales from mid 1960s to mid 1970s.
The Plymouth division of the Chrysler Corporation introduced the Plymouth Fury in 1956. It was a relatively small car, in the form of either a hardtop coupe or a convertible, and was conceived as Plymouth’s halo model, destined to carry the Plymouth brand and lead it to success. But this design did not last long and lasted only until 1958.
In 1959, a new and larger Plymouth Fury was introduced. It was now in the full-size C-body style and replaced the Plymouth Belvedere as the brand’s standard-bearer. A performance model called the Sport Fury was also introduced in the year, which became the brand’s halo model. Now also available in larger sedan and station wagon body styles, the Plymouth Fury continued to get larger and more powerful in the succeeding years. In 1965, a new fleet of much larger Plymouth Fury’s was introduced (Fury I, Fury II, Fury III and Sport Fury) to match its full-size car rivals more competitively. These Fury’s were manufactured and sold until 1974 and was the main reason for Plymouth’s high sales for nearly 10 years.
In the mid 1970s, the style trend was slowly directing to smaller and more fuel-efficient cars, and the Plymouth brand was quick to follow. In 1975, the Plymouth Fury was downsized to the intermediate category, with only the Plymouth Gran Fury, a former trim of the Plymouth Fury, being designated on the full-size car category. This new set of Plymouth Fury’s replaced the Plymouth Satellite in the mid-size market. Although this generation of the Plymouth Fury would probably be the most known today, mostly due to media publicity and its continued use as a police car, it did not sold well. The model was dropped for the 1979 model year. From 1980 until its downfall in 1989, only the Plymouth Gran Fury, then also a mid-size car, was offered. And it was a lot different from the previous mid-size Plymouth Fury’s. Actually, it was just a re-badged Dodge Diplomat M-body car.
As the trend for car body styles changed, the Plymouth Fury also changed. And with every change, the Plymouth Fury parts to be used on the car would change as well. That’s why from the period of 1956 to 1989, there are a lot of Plymouth Fury automotive and mechanical parts like engines, radiators, and body panels that have a lot of different and distinct specifications. Here at Parts Train, we can assure you that we have the Plymouth Fury part for every Plymouth Fury year model there is.
