The Plymouth Acclaim was a small and compact 4-door family sedan manufactured by the Plymouth division of Chrysler from 1989 to 1995. It was based on the extended K platform, which was also used by Chrysler for most of its other cars manufactured and sold during the same period. It was similar to the Dodge Spirit and the Chrysler LeBaron, but among the three, the Plymouth Acclaim has the lowest sticker price.

When the Plymouth Acclaim was introduced in 1989, it was offered in three trim levels: base, LE, and LX trims. Both the base and the LE models were sold with a standard 2.5-liter inline-type 4-cylinder engine and a choice of either a 5-speed manual shift or a 3-speed automatic transaxle. The upscale LX trim, on the other hand, came equipped with a 141 hp 3.0-liter V6 engine coupled with a 4-speed automatic gearbox. This specs changed, however, in 1992 when the entire line-up was reduced to a single model until it was retired from the Plymouth model line-up in 1995. At its last year in the market, the Plymouth Acclaim was available only with the 2.5-liter I4 engine coupled with a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

No one would expect the Plymouth Acclaim to perform at the level of the upscale Chrysler model. But at the low price by which it was offered, the Plymouth Acclaim proves to be a reliable car. In fact, it was the most reliable local car when it was still being sold, being beaten only by the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry. It was also loved for its soft ride, although driving it is not a comfort at all because of its loud engine noise. If one wants the car to perform at its best, the 3.0-liter V6/5-speed manual transmission combo is recommended.
