Oldsmobile is considered as one of the long standing automobile brands in the auto industry. This brand of automobile has a long run with more than 100 years of production, not until 2004 when Oldsmobile decided to end producing cars under their label. Oldsmobile was founded by Ransom E. Olds and was introduced in 1897 in Lansing Michigan. In 1901, Oldsmobile sold 435 vehicles name Curved Dashed Olds. It became the first high volume car sold of its day. This has made the Oldsmobile the top-selling vehicle in America.

But in spite of this success, Ransom Olds left the company because of financial difficulties, this was in 1907. The following year, General Motors bought Oldsmobile. So, most of the Oldsmobile’s existence was produced by General Motors. When General Motors took over the company, Olds were promoted due to their sophisticating design. Olds were often first in many features compared to their competitors. The Oldsmobile also became a target of many songs and movies.

However, things are not meant to last forever. In 1990, the sales of Oldsmobile started to trail off. Oldsmobile vehicles were considered as cars for older people and not something the younger generation would be interested in driving. So in a hope to turn it around, the company advertised the slogan “not your father’s Oldsmobile.” But it seems that it doesn’t work so in 2002, General Motors just decided to stop producing cars. It lasted for 107 years to be exact, with over 35 million cars produced.

The Jetstar 88 runs under the Oldsmobile label. The Oldsmobile Jetstar 88 shared a variety of components with the Oldsmobile F-85 line in the ‘60s. The Oldsmobile Jetstar 88 used the smaller 330 V8 engine, Jetaway (Super Turbine 300) two-speed automatic transmission instead of the Hydra-Matic used in other Oldsmobile vehicles, and 9.5 inches drum brakes. Unfortunately, such brakes were less effective compared to the 11-inch drum brakes found on other full-size Oldsmobile vehicles like the Dynamic 88.
