Nissan lunched a brand new, down-to-earth, rugged truck last 2000. A sport utility sedan called the Nissan Xterra. Not much stylish and luxurious looking, and does not fit to be called the rich man's toy, the Xterra is designed for the younger, edgy, outdoor adventure seekers. It screams of a spacious cargo and an eye-catching roof rack that would really fit with camping gear things, bikes, or a kayak.
The Nissan Xterra is truly a utilitarian for everything about it is functional. Just imagine the extended running boards acts as a buffer from bodyside dents. Some models has this optional Utility Package, where it works as a step ladder for securing stuffs on the roof racks. These racks are built to carry loads up to 125 pounds. The roof rack also has a removable basket that can hold 30 pounds of loads. When you remove the basket, you can pop up the sunroof glass top.
The Nissan Xterra is available in a two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive having a four-cylinder or V6 engine. Every Xterra models includes a standard four-wheel anti-lock brakes and power assisted steering. The towing capacity is 2,500 pounds on the 4x2 four-cylinder model and 5,000 pounds for the V6 powered engine model.
At present, the all new 2005 Nissan Xterra somehow stuck more with its original design. The rear-panel bump-out still remains to accommodate Xterra's first aid kit, and of course the C-pillar mounted door handles. A few of the changes includes the wheel-well flares which are now a bit bigger, and the overall vehicle design has slightly sharper edges giving it a more aggressive look. Also, the Xterra now has a locking rear differential and Bilstein shocks. Hill descent control and hill start assist are standard with the Off-Road trim. Its power grows as the engine shakes out 265 hp and 284 lb.-ft or 385 Nm of torque.
There are two new transmissions, an electronically controlled 5 speed automatic and a 6 speed manual transmission. The new generation Xterra's interior quality is now better, having gaps of varying sizes in their hard-plastic joints. It has more room, a front legroom increased with nearly an inch and front headroom over half an inch. It was greatly expanded in the second row having an additional 3.6 inches and headroom has grown by 2.3 inches.
Nissan '05 Xterra is offered in three trim levels: the base S, which is a replacement for the XE; the mid-range SE; and the new off-road model. To fully extinguish the big difference, one should look hardly on the design which somewhat shares the designs of the new Frontier and Pathfinder.
