Because of the carburetor problem with the 260 line, the Nissan Company had to again do changes with its car models. Thus this is where the 280z comes in, year 1975. The engineers replaced the carburetors with the right one fitting the motors of the 280z but still kept the power under the hood. The exterior and built of the 280 remained similar with that of the 240 and 260, with only a few minor cosmetic changes. The main difference I guess is the bumpers having rubber ends as opposed to the all metal bumpers of the 240.
The 280 type Nissan ran for four years, 1975 – 1978. When Datsun changed its name to Nissan during those early times, the manufacturing of the 180 was stopped and the company had decided to create a completely new look. The new car that replaced the 280 was called 280zx. Only, this time, the 280zx was made to be a luxurious sports car.
The same with the original Z lineup, the 280zx still had both the two seater and the 2+2 or the two doors and four seats version. An added feature on this model is the “T-top”, it is a removable sunroof above each of the front seat passenger’s head with only a small piece of the roof down the center.
Some of the avid followers of the Z line up said that the coming of the ZX was the start of the ending of the Z cars. Then, only for a few years, Nissan decided to change the design once again so the 280ZX was dropped out of the list and was then replaced by the 300ZX.
