The Japanese made Nissan 240 SX throttled in the North American markets in 1989 to replace the Nissan 200SX. It is patterned after the Nissan S platform with two generations produced the S13 from 1989 until 1994 and the S14 from 1995 to 1998.
Two distinct versions are offered for the first generation, the Zenki and Chuki. The Zenki is sold in fastback and coupe body styles. The Zenki XE fastback has features much similar to the Japanese car Silvia but of course there are also the points of difference which gave the 240X its own uniqueness. Nissan 240SX is equipped with a 2.4-litre SOHC KA24E, 3 valves per cylinder engine. Silvia on the other hand has a 1.8-litre DOHC CA18 power train. The retractable headlights used by the Silva will supposedly be adopted but the US regulations disproved its use.
The Chuki took the place of the Zenki from 1991 to 1994. There were several modifications done both in the style and performance of the car. Power output is increased from 140hp to 155hp as produced by the new DOHC KA24DE with 4 valves per cylinder engine. The conservative bumper replaced by the well-polished component tied up with the restyling components included in the optional Sports package gave the car a refreshed modern look. The second Nissan 240SX generation also goes through the same changes. The last SX was produced on July 23, 1998.
