Nissan, during the year 1977 went by the name Datsun then in the United States. There they introduced the Nissan 200SX, which is a 2-door sport coupe. Somehow on its first production, the original S10-series 200SX didn’t sell that good, this is probably because Japanese imports then were still not dominant in the Northern America automotive market unlike today. A few years after, Nissan redesigned the 200sx, came out and was sold in Europe and Japan as the Silvia; Gazelle when it was brought to Australia and New Zealand; and in Mexico it was known as Sakura. In the US, 200sx was powered with a Z20E 2.0 liter 4-cylinder. For 1982 up to 1983, its engine was expanded to 2.2 liters creating the Z22E. These then became really saleable and still is running on the road in the present. When 1984 to 1986 came, the Nissan 200sx then was offered with two engine choices in the United States. There’s the CA20E 2.0 liter four, and the CA18ET 1.8 liter turbo. A year after that, they then dropped the turbo and offered the US something bigger, an estimate of 5000 cars in 1987 and 5000 in 1988 used the new engine VG30E 3.0 liter V6, with its model named as the 200sx SE V6. Sometime in the year 1995 to 1998, it became a bit confusing when Nissan used the name “200sx” to two different lines of automobile models in different markets. An example of this is its early 200sx which was based on a rear-wheel drive S-series chassis. By 1989, Nissan still continued to sell the latest iteration then of the S-series chassis, as the S13, while the 200sx with a 2.0 liter motor carried on in Australia and Europe. When 1995 came, they then now introduced the 200sx nameplate in the United States, but that shared the B14 chassis with the Nissan Sentra with a two-door edition fitted with a sporty SR20DE motor.
