Contrary to the knowledge of most car buyers and owners, Nissan has long been in the automobile industry. Although the Nissan brand name were used in cars only since 1983, the company, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., has been around and manufacturing cars since 1933. It has carried the Datsun brand for the cars and trucks it has manufactured since it was officially founded in June 1, 1934 by Yoshisuke Aikawa. The Datsun brand traces the history of the company even long before it was named Nissan, as it came from the car type called DAT, the first car designed by the company when it was still called the Kwaishinsha Motorcar Works.
