The Luce Rotary (Japan name) or the Mazda RX-4 (United States name) was the biggest vehicle in its generation and its predecessors in the Mazda RX series. This vehicle was designed having both worlds in one, single vehicle which is to be a sporty vehicle as well as to be a luxury vehicle. It was produced from early 1970’s to October 1977 where it replaces the Mazda R130. By the time that the Mazda RX-4 was available to the public consumers, the Mazda Corporation was been popular of the only vehicle manufacturer that uses and enhances the Wankel’s rotary engine.

The rotary engine is only used by Mazda vehicle that makes them unique to other vehicle models. The Mazda RX-4 was one of the highest standard vehicles in its time and was initially available with hard top 4 door sedan and 2 door coupe vehicle. But it was made as a station wagon which launched some time on 1973 to replace the hard top Savanna wagon. It was one of the luxury cars that even car enthusiasts had made interest because of its luxury vehicle incorporating the look of a sports vehicle. The design of the Mazda RX-4 was a result of total engineering of the Mazda Corporation.

When the Mazda RX-4 was first introduced, it has a 12A rotary engine that produces a massive 130 horsepower that is able to be used on car racing without any modification. But after a year when it is introduced to the public, the rotary 12A engine was replaced by a rotary13B engine that only produces a 125 horsepower. The 13B rotary engine of Mazda RX-4 was the newly designed engine that has an AP (anti pollution) version. This engine was made to provide cleaner exhaust that will eventually result to lesser air pollution. This improved rotary engine version also enhances the emission of the vehicle and its fuel economy as well. The only downfall of this engine version is that it is somewhat have a cold starting behavior especially at cold mornings.

The Mazda RX-4 used a strut type suspension in front while a solid axle is used at the rear. The brakes disc was also introduced to this vehicle and used on its front wheel while the rear wheel used a drum brakes. This vehicle provides durability, efficiency and high performance to the user.
