From late 1960’2 to early 1970’s, the Mazda Corporation had developed a vehicle that has a rotary engine which is finally become a trademark of the company. The Mazda R100 is the only vehicle that is made from 2 different models. The chassis is some what similar from the Familia vehicle and the rotary engine is also similar to the one used on Cosmo Sports Series. This vehicle is a 2 door coupe vehicle that is produced from 1968 to 1973. It was one of the first and official vehicles that were imported into the United States that is sold in 1971 and 1972. The Mazda R100 was a big hit that American public patronized even though the sales of this vehicle were quite limited to Seattle initially.

Smooth, compact and powerful rotary engine is coined by Dr. Felix Wankel an automobile engine engineer. This kind of vehicle is also used by other vehicle manufacturers such as Toyota and Nissan and not succeeded on using it. The rotary engine business was some what bankrupted because of excessive seal wear and massive fuel consumption. Other vehicle manufacturers have lost interest in this kind of engine but the Mazda Corporation is determined and perseveres to enhance the rotary engine. The result is an unbroken line of rotary powered vehicle that is produces since 1967 such as the Mazda R100. This kind of engine is still used and reproduces until the Mazda RX-8.

The Mazda R100 is one of the toughest vehicles that are still running today. It incorporates durability, efficiency and performance in one of a kind rotary powered vehicle. It has a humming, high revving piston free rotary engine that is making an outstanding noise that comprises power and stability. The rotary engine performs the four processes of intake, compression, combustion and exhaust by turning the triangular shape rotor to generate the engine power.
