The Mazda is a car manufacturer known for producing some of the industry’s unique and one-of-a-kind models. For almost a century, Mazda has successfully produced great models and been given popular recognition through the years. One of Mazda’s proud models is the Mazda MX-5 Miata.
The Mazda MX-5 Miata or MX-5 or simply Miata is a sports car that was developed by the Mazda Motor Corporation. The Miata is also called as Eunos Roadster or simply Roadster in Japanese market. It was introduced in 1989 during the Chicago Auto Show, and since then, it became the world’s best selling sports car with 720, 407 units produced and sold until the end of March 2005.
Basically, the Miata was intended to address the need of car enthusiasts for light and less complex vehicles. Its basic features include having a powerplant positioned in front, with a rear-wheel drive layout, and 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension. Available engine for it are 1.6-liter, 1.8-liter or 2.0-liter, all longitudinally mounted. A manual transmission is often preferred by buyers over the automatic ones.
In 1994, the Miata had some modifications and changes such as the addition of 1.8-liter BP engine, dual airbags, and geared limited slip differential among others. Also, additional trims like the base or A Package, B Package with additional body styles, C Package having tan interior and leather upholstery, special R Package for the racing edition, M Edition that is equipped with loads of luxury options and other special equipments were introduced.
For the 1998 Miata (NB or Mark 2), improvement in power output and style were the main concern. Several years later, the Miata’s exterior design was given some edge and the interior was given some racing cockpit inspired touches. Updates on powerplants and transmissions were also given notice. And for the third generation Miatas (2005 down to present), it was equipped with RX-8 chassis, and a 16-valve, 2.0-liyter MZR I4 engine was used to generate 120-horsepower. Further, its almost perfect engineering allowed the car to have a 50-50 weigh distribution for easy handling and optimum ride quality.
