Designer Marcello Gandini, one of the more talented designers of Bertone, designed the elegant Maserati Khamsin in 1972 which replaced the Maserati Indy model. It soon became the rival of the Ferrari Daytona. But it was not until 1974 that the production of Khamsin got started, during the phasing out of the Daytona. Production ended in 1980 with a total of 421 built cars.

The Maserati Khamsin is an elegant 2+2 coupe powered by the powerful and long-proven 49630cc quad cam V8 which can achieve up to 168 mph of car speed. Of course, you have the option to use either automatic or manual transmissions. It was dubbed by devotees as “the last great Maserati grand tourer” and super car. True to its form, Gandini’s design has a lot of attention-grabbing features: a unique asymmetric louvered hood grille (which was later revised for later cars), to help address the cooling issues, a lengthened vent across the rest of the hood is added. It provides great luggage access in a horizontal hatchback. And backing up is so much easier with its rear glass panel. Not only that, the U.S Khamsins showed a poor 140mph top speed at 13 seconds, while the original Maserati Khamsin comes with a respectable 350 lb-ft or torque and 320 hp, for a 168 mph top speed at a six-second 0-60 time.
