Maserati Ghibli once competed for customers with the Lamborghini Miura and the Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona. It was during the golden period in the Italian automobile design. Ghibli is said to be one of the definitive Giugiaro masterpieces. It is composed of simple designs but beautifully styled and balanced. It is considered as a car for all ages.

Obviously, Ghibli employs V8 engine that is based on the 1956 powered Tipo 450S sports racer. The Tipo proved in 1957, that it is the fastest sports racer of that era. Such engine is also used to power up the series of prototypes. The mechanics of the Ghibli include the AM.115 by the factory with a light alloy of 4.7 liter. It employs a V8 cylinder four-overhead camshaft engine fed by four large twin-choke downdraught Weber 40 DCNL/5 carburetors. The dry sump oil lubrication provides the car with its very low center of gravity. This is a format that is adopted preciously for sports racers.

The chassis is a shortened version of that in the 3500GT and Mexico that has extra struts for more rigid frame. Ghibli has an independent front suspension that featuring double wishbones, coil springs, hydraulic shock absorbers, and anti-roll bar. The rear suspension, on the other hand, was by a Salisbury live axle that has semi-elliptical leaf springs, anti-roll bar, and hydraulic shock absorbers. Ghibli’s body is considered as the best construction of Maserati. It is not due to the affliction of smaller and bigger problems with low series production but perhaps with the paintwork and finish that are impeccable.

Ghibli’s interior provides two comfortable front seats and two emergency seats behind them. Ghibli coupe was principally a two-seater automobile with rear area of approximately 0.6 cubic meters. It is designed as a luggage space accessed through the small rear boot lid. The Dashboard is equipped with a complete array of instruments and regulators that are utilized for the ease of driving.
