Lincoln has always been considered as among the world’s top luxury automobile manufacturers. The company was established by Henry Leland in 1917. During the World War I, the company started to build not automobiles but Liberty aircraft engines. It was only after the war when the Lincoln factories were retooled to produce luxury automobiles. However, in the course of such transition, Lincoln incurred stern financial problems ending up with the Ford Motor Company buying the latter in 1922. Although Lincoln was already under the control and supervision of the Ford, the production remained with the Lincoln marque in its Lincoln-Mercury division. In just a few years time, Lincoln evolved to be one of America’s top selling luxury brands.
Through the years, Lincoln has successfully introduced and produced some of the automobile industry’s most admired and outstanding models. Lincoln never ceased to come up with significant models one after the other. There are the Lincoln L Series and K Series, Continental, Capri, Navigator, LS V8, Mark LT, MKX, MKZ the flagship Town Car, Zephyr, LS, Aviator, and the Blackwood. The Lincoln Mark Series is another model that has strongly made an impact in the automobile history.
The Lincoln Mark Series is a two-door personal luxury coupe that was produced from 1956 until 1998. However, the original Mark was produced by the Continental division which was a distinct division from Lincoln. In 1958, the Mark was continuously sold as the Continental Mark II, with the merger of the Continental division with the Lincoln marque. The Continental Mark was produced until 1984 when the Mark VII was introduced. The Mark VIII which was produced from 1993 through 1998 was the final Mark generation and Lincoln’s last personal luxury coupe.
The Lincoln’s second generation Continental Mark is mistakenly called as the Lincoln Mark II which should be called as the Continental Mark II instead. It was the first automobile unit produced by the newly formed Continental Division of Ford during 1956 and 1957. Even though it was technically not a Lincoln, it nevertheless made use some of Lincoln’s features. It resembles the classic cars that were seen during the postwar period. It was intended to be an American car showcasing abundant luxury and great elegance, but the product turned out to be quite the opposite. It was more of the European styling due to its simplicity and modest details.
In anyway, if you mean the Continental Mark II as the Lincoln’s second generation of the Mark Series or simply the Lincoln Mark II then you should not worry at all.
