While the Jeep Company became very phenomenal with its success, its name became a subject of speculations and arguments. There are actually different theories on the origination of the name. Commonly heard one was that the term “Jeep” was used in Oklahoma in the 1930’s to describe specialized trucks used in drilling for oil. It is believed that the same term was later used by those from the area in giving description to the Willys MB.
There was another group of men who believed that the name came from a slang abbreviation of the term G.P. – an acronym that stood for General Purpose vehicle. There was however conflict in this claim since the term General Purpose was reportedly used to describe the US Army’s quarter-ton reconnaissance vehicles, and not the Willys. Moreover, the Willys MB was designated for particular duties and was not used to refer to Army circles as a General Purpose.
Whatever the truth is, nobody actually knows. This mind puzzle hasn’t been solved even up to present time, and perhaps it is better to leave it that way. Meanwhile, let’s talk about the Jeep vehicle models. This one might be more interesting. As you might have known, Jeep is an automobile marque and registered trademark of Daimler Chrysler. Similarly to all other Chrysler subsidiaries, the marque became part of the Daimler Chrysler the time when Daimler-Benz merged with the Chrysler Corporation in 1998.
It was early in the year 1941 when Willys-Overland presented the Jeep’s ability by having it drive up the US Capitol steps, driven by Willys’ test driver Irving Haussman who had heard recently the soldiers at Fort Holabird calling it Jeep. The first ever Jeep prototype was the Bantam BRC which was built for the department of the Army by American Bantam in Butler, Pennsylvania. This was followed by two other prototypes built by Ford and Willys-overland. Hence, the American Bantam car Company built their first Jeep model for the US Military.
Another Jeep vehicle model was the Jeep F4. This Jeep model was made tough, durable, and powerful and can sprint in different terrain conditions. This model exhibits the true characteristics of an authentic and original Jeep vehicle. It has a balance approach to performance making it quick and powerful. Now, the challenge to those who own Jeep as such is to keep the power at its peak level. It is only through realizing this goal that they can call themselves a genuine Jeep enthusiast.
