When the Jeep Forward Control was introduced to the world, numerous FC versions were produced in many other countries under collaboration agreements with succeeding owners of Jeep such as the Kaiser, Willys Overland and the American Motors. The forward control models were actually not available in the domestic market. In India, the Mahindra Company started its business operation in 1947 by assembling Completely Knocked Down Jeeps or CKD. As early as 1965, the company started the Jeep Fc150 production and later expanded the model range.
The Kaiser – Willys also gave licensed to Vehiculos Industriales y Agricolas, S.A. or VIASA in 1960’s. This is to allow the company to build Jeeps in Spain. The VIASA was absorbed by Ebro trucks during the late 1970s. Using a Jeep chassis, the SV line of commercial trucks were built just like the FC models in the United States. Included in the unique Iberian models are the Campeador, a one top pickup; Duplex, double cab pickup; Furgon, one-ton van; and the Toledo, 9-seat van.
As a common knowledge, the Jeep Forward Control like the Jeep Fc170 was designed and created by Willys and Kaiser Jeep from 1956 to 1965. Featured in the Forward Control layout was a cab forward. This was also known as the cab-over-engine or COE design. Primarily marketed as utility vehicles, the forward control models were used for corporate, municipal, military and civilian use. And though the regular pickup beds were standard, the customers were offered a huge number of special bodies that are “Jeep approved” from the outside suppliers. Specifically, the Jeep Fc170 models had a 103 inches or 261 centimeters wheelbase with a 108 inch bed. This model had a trace of significance since this was the first time the length of the payload box exceeded the wheelbase of a truck. This was of course realized by employing the forward cabin layout. This vehicle, although a modern version of the Fc170 still shows the culture and the hallmark of the authentic Jeep spirit.
