The Jeep is known in the history for serving the US military. There is however some sort of misunderstanding concerning who created the original Jeep. While many attributed the development of the first Jeep to Willys, the true inspiration of the first Jeep design actually came from a small and relatively unknown company named the American Bantam Car Company based in Butler, PA.
First established as a subsidiary of the Austin Car Company, a British car manufacturer, the American Bantam Car Company was originally called the American Austin Car Company that made a small and economical car called the Austin Seven. This car invention became very famous in England. Unluckily though, this vehicle never became popular in the United States leaving the company bankrupt. Eventually, it was taken over when the company Chairman changed its name to American Bantam Car Company or simply known as Bantam.
As the company is popularly known for, they came up with a military vehicle. In an effort to sell the military on the use of such vehicles, they provided few autos to the National Guard. A realization came upon the minds of the military that there was a great need for a light mobile vehicle and so they finally agreed to discuss a design with Bantam in 1940. Years following, the company had come up with more vehicles for different purposes. As early as 1940s, traditional models such as the CJ series were introduced. As the years goes by, Dispatcher, Crossover, Compact, SUV, Pickup and Truck Jeep models were out for public use.
Among the Jeep Dispatcher was the Jeep Dj5. Built in 1965, this vehicle was based on the CJ5 and used the Hurricane and Dauntless engines. In 1967, a new model version was introduced called the DJ-5A, a postal Jeep. As one of the early models, this also employed a standard CJ front end but later was changed to the unique 5-slot grille which is used only for postal Jeep. This was made powerful by a Chevrolet four-cylinder engine mated to a Power glide transmission through the 1960s.
Since this vehicle created a historical value in the world of automobile as well as in the US military, keeping the spirit of your old Jeep vehicle like the Jeep Dj5 is something you should think about.
