The DaimlerChrysler Corporation is one of the most recognized automobile manufacturers in the world. With its subsidiary marques such as the famous Mercedes Benz and four others under the Mercedes Car Group; the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and the discontinued Eagle and Plymouth under the Chrysler Group; the Commercial Vehicle Brands; and the Engine Brands, the DaimlerChrysler Corporation remains to be one of the largest car manufacturers in the industry. Since the Jeep marque was primarily a Chrysler subsidiary, it became part of the DaimlerChrysler during the merger of the Daimler-Benz Corporation with the Chrysler Corporation in 1998.

The Jeep marque has been renowned for producing some of the most durable military vehicles. However, Jeep also took pride in building some of the automobile industry's best civilian models in the passing years. Jeep historical models include the CJ (Civilian Jeep), Gladiator, Honcho, Dispatcher, Jeepster, Forward Control, Wagoneer, MJ, and Grand Wagoneer. Recent Jeep models include the Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Liberty, Compass, Patriot and the Commander. The Jeep is the third automobile maker to use the name Commander following the Studebreaker and Scammell.

The Commander is Jeep's newest model in its lineup. It is a 7-seater midsize SUV that was introduced at the 2005 New York Auto Show as a 2006 model. It is Jeep's competing product against the similar models Ford Explorer, Hummer H3, Mazda CX-9 and Toyota 4Runner. It is few inches bigger than the famous Grand Cherokee measuring at 109.5 inches for the wheelbase, 188.5 inches for the length, 89 inches for the width, and 71.9 inches for the height.

In terms of appearance, the Commander is more of a boxy type 4-door wagon that features an upright windshield and squared-off sides. Disguised by a roof rack, you will barely notice its paced roof for the second and third row seats, higher than the first row seats. Three sunroofs are also being featured by this automobile. Available powerplants for the Commander are 3.7-liter PowerTech V6 base engine, and the 4.7-liter PowerTech V8 and the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 optional engines. To sum it up, the Commander is a combination of Wagoneer's exterior styling, Grand Cherokee's platform, and comes equipped with excellent powerplants.
