Replacing the Xk120, the Xk140 range arrived in 1954. This new model hinted at Jaguars to continue selling its cars in the United States. Featured in this car is an altogether heavier appearance that incorporated a wider front grille and more substantial bumpers front and rear. This got a more powerful 190bhp engine, rack and pinion steering and an optional special equipment pack that included wire wheels and even more (210bhp) power. The Jaguar Xk140 has two versions – the Jaguar Xk140 Fixed Head Coupe and the Jaguar Drophead Coupe. The truth is the open roadster version of the Xk range continued to sell in greater numbers than the better equipped Xk140 Fixed and Drop Head Coupe variants.

The Xk140 came in the same variant as before although the Drop Head and Fixed Head Coupe versions now featured larger passenger, which had occasional rear seats and a different bulkhead arrangement. Similarly to the other cars in Xk140 range, the Fixed Head featured bigger bumpers and a novel front grille, complete with a revised badge announcing the Jaguar’s success at Le Mans. The rarest of the new Xk140 range was the fully convertible Drop Head Coupe which had an additional rear seats to improve interior space. Meeting the end of the models production life, an automatic transmission option became available.

There are some upgrades made to this model including better braking system and rack and pinion steering. And to improve practicality, a jump seat was added to the coupe version. The model name Xk140 actually refers to its 140 mph (225 km/h) top speed. This model also continued to feature the famous Jaguar Xk engine. As mentioned earlier, very noticeable features of this car is the more substantial front and rear bumpers. While it has the same grille as that of the Xk120, this model has reduced the number of vertical slats and each slat was made thicker. And this time, the grille became a one piece cast unit.

About the interior, everything was made more comfortable for taller occupants with 3 inches addition in length. To achieved this, the engine was moved forward allowing the firewall and dash location to be relocated as well. The Xk140 was available in three body styles – the Roadster or Open Top Sports, the Drop Head Coupe, and the Fixed Head Coupe.
