Formerly known as Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922, Jaguar was founded by two motorcycle enthusiasts namely William Lyons and William Walmsley. The name “Jaguar” actually first appeared on a 2.5 liter saloon in 1935 and was given to the whole company when SS Cars Ltd was renamed Jaguar Cars Ltd after the Word War II. This was because of the undesirable connotations of the initials “SS” as formerly used by Schutzstaffel in Nazi Germany.

In 1966, the company merged with the British Motor Corporation (BMC), the Austin-Morris combine to from British Motor Holdings (BMH). Originally, the company was located in Blackpool and later moved to Conventr in 1928 to be at the heart if the British motor industry. These days Jaguar vehicles are assembled at Castle Bromwich in Birmingham and Halewood in Liverpol. When the vehicle assembly plant in the year 2005, the historic Browns Lane Plant closed leaving the XJ, XK and S-Type production at castle Bromwich and the X-type at Halewood.

Looking back at its humble yet hopeful beginning, there are several Models as part of the Company History. The company started the production with the pre war 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 litre models that employed engines designed by the Standard Motor Company. These cars have become famous as the Mark IVs. The 1948 Mark V was its first post war model and was available with either 2.5 or 3.5 litre engines. It had a more streamlined appearance than pre-war Jaguar models. Here, there was a change to independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes.

The introduction of Jaguar Mark viii was also phenomenal. This model was significantly the update of the Mark VII. This is best recognized with its one-piece curved windscreen. This was Jaguar’s answer to roll and Bentleys of the era and has a stately appearance with an abundance of wood, leather and chrome. To keep this car running is pretty much affordable since the drive train is like that of the Jaguar XK engine which is also used in various models. Also, its mechanical parts are plentiful and not costly.

Mechanically speaking, its engine fires right up and run smoothly with good oil pressure and normal engine temperature. The body frame is highly solid and the gaps are pretty good. You just need to exercise a regular inspection at regular intervals to keep it at its best condition.
