Geo is a brand of automobiles marketed by General Motors. It was produced from 1989 until 1997, starting with the model Geo Metro, a redesigned Chevy Sprint. This vehicle, offered in two or four-door subcompact hatchback or 2-seater convertible, was made to compete with the growing import economy market in the late 1980s. From the time it was introduced in the market, it bested other cars in terms of fuel economy. It was the highest-mileage car in the 1980s. Like other Geo cars, the Geo Metro was not manufactured by General Motors but by other companies for GM. Geo vehicles were included in the product line of Chevy, which is a GM make, however, the Metro was manufactured by CAMI, a joint venture of Suzuki and GM Canada.
The Geo Metro has been designed with the users’ safety and driving satisfaction in mind. Its engine lineup includes 1.3 L SOHC engine that offers 70 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 74 lb-ft of torque. This power output is 40 percent higher than the previous 1 L engine fitted to the previous Metro hatchback. The passenger compartment is surrounded by steel safety cage and its body’s rigidity and strength is enhanced by using highly durable materials. Metro also sports of an excellent braking system that ensures safety of passengers. It delivers a remarkable braking performance even when the car is running at high speed.
Midsize Metro doesn’t come unnoticed with its daytime running lamps, extra huge taillights, flashy headlights and oval-shaped air dam that goes down through the fascia. Its modified jelly-bean shape and its unique black door-pillar trim and bodyside moldings are well-appreciated in the sedan market. At the back, the car is highlighted by its thick rear fascia that tells you it can excellently absorb minor impacts. The interior is just as attractive as its looks. It provides adequate space and all interior parts are conveniently positioned and clearly designated. Controls are easily located and can be easily read from the driver’s seat.
