A 1993 redesign gave it an aerodynamic look whose style was also used for the Mazda B-Series the following year. This style, called the second generation, lasted until 1997.
On 1998, the third generation of the Ford Ranger appeared. This time, the Ford Ranger was longer and larger. It still looks like the Mazda B-Series, which was also redesigned during the same year.
Ford's current offering of the Ford Ranger is the fourth generation of the said vehicle, which started from the 2001 model year. Today's Ford Ranger is offered in six trim levels: XL, STX, XLT, Edge, FX4 Off-Road and FX4 Level II. Three engine options are available, starting with the capable 2.3 liter I4, the 3.0 liter V6 that provides excellent low-end torque, and the large and powerful 3.0 liter V6. All engine options are coupled with a standard 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
