It is one of the best selling vehicles in the mid-size SUV division and according to Ford, it has also been the most trusted SUV in the market ever since it was introduced in 1991. The Ford Explorer, indeed, is a popular and well-loved vehicle. It is one of those vehicles that brought the SUV line from the special interest market to the mainstream vehicle market.

The Ford Explorer was first introduced by Ford in 1991 and after 14 years, it is still in production and selling very well. It is a mid-size SUV that replaced the Ford Bronco II, the smaller of the two Broncos sold by Ford, and whose early designs were based mostly on the Ford Ranger.

On its first year in the market, the Ford Explorer was available in five trim levels and two body styles. It came in base XL, XLT, Sport, and Eddie Bauer models. These units are either in 2-door or four-door wagon body styles and equipped with either 2- or 4-wheel drive. The sole engine was 4.0 liter V6 coupled with a 4-speed automatic transmission unit.

A series of redesigns were made to the Ford Explorer to become what we see it now. In 1996, a larger and more powerful 4.9 liter V8 engine was added in its engine options. Later in 2001, a 2-door pickup model was introduced and called the Explorer Sport Trac.

The current Ford Explorer line-up consists of six trim levels: XLS, XLS Sport, XLT, XLT Sport, Eddie Bauer and Limited. These models come with either the 4.0 liter V6 engine that outputs 210 hp or the 4.6 liter V8 engine rated at 239 hp. All come standard with a 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive unit.

So why have the Ford Explorer continued to hold on the number one spot for mid-size SUV sales and trust ratings? The main reason maybe is that there are just a lot of thing to love in the Ford Explorer. It has a comfortable and versatile interior. It can offer you a smooth and comfortable ride. And last, it has all the power you need in a relatively small size for an SUV.

With such a good car as the Explorer, you would always want to keep it in good shape. Give it proper care and if you have to replace some of its parts, use only high quality Ford Explorer parts. Here at Parts Train, we have a lot of such parts that you can use whenever you need to repair your Ford Explorer. The parts that we offer are also guaranteed to bring out the best in your mid-size SUV.
