It is not another name for the Ford Explorer. Neither does it in anyway look like one. The Ford EXP is an entirely different car manufactured by Ford in the 1980s. So if you are looking for Ford Explorer parts and you were brought to this site, feel free to browse further in this same site and you'll find the parts you need. However, if you own a Ford EXP and want to repair and restore it, then you are definitely in the right site.

The Ford EXP was a subcompact car manufactured by Ford from 1981 to 1988. It was the first 2-door 2-seater car manufactured by Ford ever since the Thunderbird ceased in production. It was also the first car of the modern era that used the Ford oval symbol.

Introduced in 1981, the Ford EXP shares most of its components with the Ford Escort which was also introduced during the same year. A more luxurious twin in the Mercury LN7 was also introduced during the same year but lasted only until 1983. Almost similar, the only apparent difference between the EXP and the LN7 were its grilles. After the LN7 was dropped in 1983, the Ford EXP line took its form.

When introduced in 1981, the Ford EXP came equipped with an 80 hp engine, which was eventually upgraded after a year to produce 10 hp more. A turbocharged 1.6 liter engine was introduced in 1984 but lasted only for two years. The turbocharged engines were replaced in 1986 by two versions of a 1.9 liter engine, one producing 106 hp while the other outputs 90 hp. When it was last manufactured in 1988, it was equipped with an upgraded version of the 1.9 liter engine.
