Ford Aerostar Parts

Chrysler has dominated the minivan category in the 1980s prompting other car manufacturing company like Ford to follow suit. By mid 1980s, Ford decided to have a minivan of their own and started designing and manufacturing a minivan that can fully compete with the Chrysler minivans. This minivan was called the Ford Aerostar.

The Ford Aerostar is a minivan produced and sold by Ford from 1986 to 1997. It is a rear wheel drive minivan that can be easily distinguished from other minivans because it used a modified pickup truck chassis for its body. Its design is very similar to the Ford Taurus, which was introduced by Ford during the same year the Ford Aerostar was introduced.

When it was introduced in mid-1985 as a 1986 model, the Ford Aerostar came equipped with a 2.3 liter 4-cylinder engine that produced 88 hp of power. This, however, improved in the succeeding years and by 1990, a 4.0 liter V6 became available coupled with a heavy duty 4-speed automatic transmission. On its final season, the Ford Aerostar in four trim levels which were equipped with either a 3.0 liter 140 hp V6 engine or a 4.0 liter 152 hp V6 engine. These models were equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission unit while a 5-speed automatic unit was offered as an option and standard on the 4WD version.

Although it was aimed to compete with the Chrysler minivans, Ford didn't totally match the design of the said minivans. The Ford Aerostar is a rear wheel drive vehicle while the Chrysler minivans were front wheel drive vehicles. This design made the Ford Aerostar more powerful and more capable of hauling and towing heavy loads. However, this made an impact on its interior space, as it became less roomy than its Chrysler rivals.

The Ford Aerostar is really more powerful than its rival Chrysler units, but it was void of the amenities and comfort that the latter has to offer. In effect, the Aerostar never outsold its Chrysler rival and was eventually dropped in 1997 to be replaced by the Ford Windstar.
