The Ferrari Testarossa is based on Berlinetta Boxer, a vehicle that wasn’t officially permitted for sale in the United States because of federal safety and emissions legislations. The Testarossa, however, was made to be a world car and is legal in any country. This car was designed to run faster, to sport better handling, to be more spacious and more luxurious and comfortable than the BB. The Testarossa was a Pininfarina-designed car that went into production in model year 1984. It is a 12-cylinder mid-engined sports car that’s 77.8 inches wide and 44.7 inches high. The name of this car means “red head” and it was derived from the flat-12 engine’s cylinder heads that are red painted. Despite of its exotic styling and high price, the Ferrari Testarossa became one of Ferrari’s most popular models. The Testarossa shared BB’s basic platform, but its double wishbones in the rear have been added with coilover shocks. One remarkable difference between the Testarossa and the outgoing BB was the radiator. The Berlinetta Boxer had a single radiator in the nose while Ferrari Testarossa employed a pair of smaller radiators on each side of the vehicle, just in front of the rear wheels.
Talking about power, Ferrari Testarossa featured 4.9-liter H12 engine that’s capable of cranking out 380 units of horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. This engine is teamed with a standard five-speed manual overdrive transmission. Despite of its success on the pavement, the Testarossa did not come out in the race tracks. This car’s standard features were air conditioning, power windows and door locks and leather seats.
