The Ferrari F40 is a supercar which was launched in 1987 as a descendant to the Ferrari 288 GTO, with which it shared some parts. The history of the F40 is quite humorous. When Enzo Ferrari turned 90 in 1987, he knew that his life was coming to an end and he was aware that Ferrari’s dominance in international motorsport had faded over the years. So, he wanted a new project which could remind the world of the company’s abilities as a car manufacturer.
His plan was simple: to build a vehicle which possessed the company’s best technologies to come as close as possible to being a race car while still preserving the essential features to be a street-legal automobile. But when he himself revealed his masterpiece, the world witnessed a true supercar – the Ferrari F40.
The Ferrari F40 is believed to be the fastest and the most powerful vehicle during it production. And it remains to be one of the highest performing street-legal automobile ever produced, even by latest standards; the Ferrari F40’s performance is amazingly soaring that very few sports vehicles could top it on the race track.
The F40’s power came from the enlarged 2.9 liter. The F40’s suspension setup, similar to the GTO’s concept, stayed a double wishbone setup, but many parts were enhanced and settings were altered. And while the Porsche 959, Ferrari’s competitor had equipped their supercar with high-end amenities and features like leather seats, four-wheel drive, high-fi air conditioning, Ferrari make the complete opposite of it.
The Ferrari F40 was basic, was light, had supreme power and instead of the Porsche 959’s common appearance, the Ferrari F40 was designed to be aggressive, it was outfitted with huge spoilers and air vents. Every vent has a purpose, to cool the big engine and brakes and the spoiler is infused to keep the F40 on the ground at top speeds.
The Ferrari F40 could not be a luxurious vehicle but it was proven that it was a real race car. It was the fifth on the list of Top Sports Cars and the 10th in the list of Motor Trend Classic’s “Greatest Ferraris of all time”. No wonder if up to this date, owners of Ferrari F40 continue to preserve their travel body. If you’re one of them and you need to restore your Ferrari F40, Parts Train is always ready to cater your needs.
