When you say high performance race cars, super cars or sports cars, there is one name that every car enthusiast would be able to associate and relate with, and that would be the Ferrari. It was in the year 1929 when the Ferrari, a car manufacturing company, was established by Enzo Ferrari. However, it was only in 1946 when it engaged into independent street legal car production from the originally race car manufacturing company. The Ferrari later became Ferrari S.p.A. and was controlled by the Fiat group. Throughout the Ferrari’s history, it has already introduced, manufactured and sold several significant and successful vehicle models such as the Ferrari F355.
The Ferrari F355 is a mid-engine sports coupe that was introduced by Ferrari in 1994 and was produced and marketed until 1999. Such model is a developed version of the 1989 Ferrari 348, a mid-engine V8-powered 2-seater sports car that was produced until 1995. Although both the 348 and the F355 use the powerful V8 powerplant, the F355 has some advantage in terms of power displacement output from the original 3.4-liter to 3.5-liter, and features a 5-valve per cylinder head. Moreover, the F355 can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles an hour in just 4.6 seconds and for another 40 miles in just 11.3 seconds. It also boasts a maximum speed of 298 kilometers an hour coming from the 380 bhp and 268ftr-lb torque.
Further, the Ferrari F355 was initially offered in 2 different models – the coupe Berlinetta and the targa topped GTS. On its second year of production, the F355 was offered as Spider convertible. In 1998, Formula One’s style paddle gear shift transmission was highlighted with the introduction of the Ferrari 355 F1. In addition, Ferrari also came to manufacture a race-ready F355 Challenge model for the Ferrari Challenege race event. This F355 Challenge version had a very slight modification but nevertheless shares the exact same performance and dimension specifications with the regular F355. The only difference between the two is that the F355 Challenge is allowed only to dash on race tracks and not on the streets.
During the final production, Ferrari built a hundred 355 units with the designation Serie Fiorano to let the public know that the 355 model is already coming to its end. Truly, the Ferrari F355 was discontinued in 1999 and was replaced by the Ferrari 360, another mid-engine sports car.
