Dodge Royal Monaco Parts |
In 1965, a full-size automobile model named Monaco was introduced by the Dodge division of the Chrysler Corporation (presently DaimlerChrysler). This Dodge Monaco automobile was intended to serve as a competitor to Pontiac’s Grand Prix model, a personal luxury car that was introduced in 1962 and was produced until 1987. The Monaco was originally offered as a hardtop coupe and was chiefly based on the Dodge Polara, a 1960 top-of-the-line 2-door, hardtop coupe, full-size car that was introduced in 1960. However, in the course of its production, the Monaco was further offered in various body styles such as 4-door sedan 4-door hardtop, 2-door convertible and 4-door station wagon. Notable features of the Dodge Monaco include a special badging, unique tail light and grille treatment, and a fresh center console.
In Canadian market, the Monaco was sold as Dodge’s version of the Sport Fury. It was equipped with a 318 cubic-inch V8 and even the slant six engines. Other powerplants that were used include the 225 cubic-inch I6 engine, the 360 cubic-inch V8 engine, the 383 cubic-inch V8 engine, the 400 cubic0inch V8 engine and the 440 cubic-inch V8 engine. In 1966, the American Custom 880 series was rebadged as the Monaco and the original Monaco was rebadged as the Monaco 500. Came 1967 when the name Monaco was used to all finest trim level full-size Dodge sedans, coupes and station wagons, taking the position of the Polara 880 at the pinnacle of the Dodge line. On the other hand, it was the 2-door hardtop Monaco 500 which took the position of the original Monaco in the premium full-size model, but was soon terminated a year after.
However, due to the 70s energy crisis, Chrysler replaced the Monaco nameplate to the midsize platform in 177 and retired the Coronet name. During that same year, the older and larger Monaco was continuously offered as the Dodge Royal Monaco, but was immediately discontinued at the end of 1977 model year, but relived again as the Dodge St. Regis for 1979, which was produced only until the end of 1981.
